It's all just consumerism. The constant exposure to NEW NEW NEW BUY NOW! is to get you to spend, spend, and spend some more. Think about it. 90 percent of us probably have cell phones that can be used for calling and texting, but they'll give you directions, read ebooks, play games, email, browse the web, take video, ssh into webservers, weigh light items, calculate, play music, and suck your dick if you got the deluxe model. Do we use all those functions? Nope. But it's nice knowing that they can do all these neat things. Plus, if it's one more function than your buddy's phone, you're a WINNER! I don't know what the

you win, but there seems to be this prevailing concept that the more shit you have or the fancier it is, you're somehow better than the guy next to you.
Think about it. Out of all the fancy things you've bought in the past decade. How long has most of it lasted? Have you gotten full functionality and use out of it? When I bought the TV for my gameroom, I just HAD to have a 1080p resolution? Why? Because that's the BEST, man. I don't want to be some 720p using scrub.

them faggots. Those queers don't know what they're missing with their games and movies being displayed in a 720p resolution. I raise my ass and toast them with flatulence in their general direction (churched up Monty Python quote alert!) as I bask in the glory of the awesomeness that is 1080p atop my mountain of magnificence.
One thing I've noticed is that some games automatically scale down to 720p. I don't know if it's how they were designed, if they were older, or what. Now for the secret, I can't even tell the difference. Sure, if I'm looking for differences, I may be able to tell that the edge of this one building is less jagged than another, but it's by no means ruinous to my gameplay experience. Now there's LED TVs and they're supposed to be light years better than the plasma and LCD. I've seen them. Still can't tell the difference. The picture might be brighter on one than the other, but that varies even between the different brands of LCDs and such. Hell, it can even be the same brand of LCD or plasma, just two different models and one picture will be brighter/cleaner/darker/blurier/etc than the other.
3D TVs are just another attempt to capitalize on the prevailing "buy more and buy now" attitude that afflicts 90% of Americans with any amount of disposable income. The majority that end up buying them will likely watch six or eight 3D movies on it and then go back to watching their network syndicated trash that's mostly displayed in standard definition anyway.
Think about it. Look back on your purchases for the past decade and ask yourself, "Have I really used this shit? Or did I buy it and then let it sit and gather dust in the corner/desk drawer/closet etc?"
I have a Wii that hasn't been turned on in months. Last time I played my PS3 was when God of War III came out. I have 2 extendable asps that have yet to crack against one skull. None of my guns have fired a round in over a year. Yet all of these things are things I just HAD to have.
